Discover the Best Bakeries in the Greater Geelong Region

There’s nothing quite as glorious as a pit stop at a cracking bakery, especially after a big morning at the beach. Whether you’re after a classic steak-and-pepper pie, a delicate vanilla slice or something more modern, here are three of the best bakeries in and around Geelong.

Rolling Pin Pies & Cakes, Ocean Grove, Queenscliff and Leopold

Many bakeries out there claim to have the best pie, but Rolling Pin got official bragging rights in 2021 when its surf’n’turf pie took out top prize at the Baking Association of Australia’s pie and pastie competition. The bakery also offers fantastic traditional fillings like country lamb-and-rosemary, plus fail-safe pasties and sausage rolls.

Freshwater Creek Cakes, Mount Duneed

About 10 minutes from Willow, along Anglesea Road, you’ll find the tiny Freshwater Creek Cakes shop. This small but mighty bakehouse specialises in house-made cakes, quiches and biscuits. Their sponge cakes are a must-try. The store is also stocked with a great range of locally made goods; from small-batch preserves to candles and native bouquets – so don’t forget to bring a bag with you on your visit!

Uncle Donut, Geelong

Located on Little Malop Street in Geelong, Uncle Donut opened with a bang in 2017 – giving away 500 doughnuts on day one! If you’re a sucker for these glazed beauties, Uncles Donut does not disappoint. The doughnuts are presented in sleek pastel-pink boxes, flavours rotate monthly and the consistency is perfectly light and spongy.
